November 14th 9 – 10 am DiscoverIt! Integrated Search Tool: JUST THE BASICS

MSL Trainer Jo Flick will show librarians how the recently deployed integrated search tool called “DiscoverIt!” is a powerful tool for patrons. DiscoverIt! searches databases and catalogs and can easily be customized to produce coherent results best suited to individual libraries.

When the EBSCO databases first deployed last Fall, the DiscoverIt! tool was not yet ready. It took months of programming and linking to enable this one-stop-shop to work. Now, it is ready to use and libraries can even get a customized graphic for their Website all pre-built and waiting in the MSL Library Directory. Imagine searching all the databases, the MT Shared Catalog, several of the public library catalogs not in the MSC, the Montana Memory Project at World Cat all at once! Yet, you can still choose to limit your search to a select group of databases, or to display only full text by default, and you can customize any instance of the DiscoverIt! search tool so that the elementary school and high school have different preferences built in.

It’s all so easy, even I can do it (and I’m not a librarian…)
